THE HOTEL INDUSTRY
Introduction

Hotel industry was born due to a fast moving worlds of today, like boat, train, airplane, cars carrying travelers over the world, either as tourist or in a normal course of their business, and normally they require food, lodging, hospitality and service of a good standard. Seeing this fact, enterprises in hotel properties consistently study and analyze in detail the current trend and development in the industry in order to provide a high standard of accommodation and service at reasonable prices in which a hotel serves them with drinks and food, therefore by common law a hotel must offer food and accommodation to its guest.

But it also assumed that liabilities for the property of a guest have to follow the public health and safety regulation and provide a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation. The growth and international expansion of the hotel and catering industry ensures a constant demand for trained and skilled staff.



Different Types of Hotels :

1.Small Hotel              =>    It has approximately 25 rooms.
2. Average Hotel         =>    It has approximately 100 rooms.
3. Above Average       =>    It has approximately 100 – 300 rooms.
4. Large Hotel             =>    It has at least 300 rooms.



The type of guest which caters gives its special characteristic and atmosphere for example :

1. Some hotel caters to family                                                                                    =>    Family Hotel
2. Some to business                                                                                                    =>    Business Hotel
3. Some to tourist or resort hotel, which are seasonal and cater for holidaymaker    =>    Resort Hotel



Hotel category based on Assessment of Tourist Office :

Melati Hotel
A good hotel and inn generally on a small scale and has facilities frequently run by proprietor himself, all bed room completed with hot and cold water, main meals served to residents either room service or at dining room, meals facilities for non residential may be limited while some are not available especially on weekend.
• Two-star Hotel
A hotel with higher standard of accommodation, better facilities and wider choice of meals.
• Three-star Hotel
A hotel with more specious accommodation completed with private bathroom/shower, meal for resident and non resident.
• Four-star Hotel
A well appointed hotel offering a high standard of comfort cuisine.
• Five-star Hotel
A luxury hotel offering very high standards of accommodations, service and comfort.
